Go Back to Folk School for A Higher Education

Get in touch with your inner artisan in the mountains
So maybe you’ve already given up on that New Year’s resolution? Well here’s one you might actually enjoy—go back to school. Or folk school, anyway.
Tucked away on a scenic three-hundred-acre expanse in the mountains of western North Carolina, the John C. Campbell Folk School foregoes the grades and exams for immersive sessions in both traditional and contemporary arts, offering some eight hundred weekend and week-long classes throughout the year. There’s something in just about every discipline, from painting to organic gardening to woodworking, photography, and music. Registration begins January 17, so if you’ve always wanted to build your own bamboo fly rod or try your hand at clawhammer banjo, now’s your chance.
