You’ve seen Vivian Howard’s food on her James Beard Award–winning PBS show, A Chef’s Life. Soon you’ll be able to cook it, with recipes from her upcoming book Deep Run Roots. And over the next few months, you’ll be able to taste it. The North Carolina native behind the Chef and the Farmer restaurant in Kinston is loading up a food truck and hitting thirty-some towns, dishing the likes of bacon-wrapped pickled watermelon rinds and baked pimento cheese grits.

The nine-week-long tour starts in New York City on October 4 before swinging below the Mason-Dixon line, to Nashville on October 6 and then to dozens more destinations in the South. For the complete schedule, click here. This is your chance to sample Howard’s cooking without traveling all the way to small-town Eastern North Carolina. And even if you aren’t on the route, you can still tune into the new season of A Chef’s Life, starting this week on your local PBS affiliate.
