Beautiful Tear Sheets
Beautiful Tear SheetsDecember 6, 2011
Typically you would never think of tearing apart a newly purchased book of art prints or photography, but that is exactly what Susan Hable and Rinne Allen want you to do with their most recent collaboration: colorset3.
All photos courtesy of Rinne Allen
Based in Athens, Georgia, these two are each creative forces in their own right, Susan Hable is one half of the textile design and home accessory company Hable Construction and Rinne Allen is an artist and photographer, but it is their joined creative efforts that have us most excited.
This book, the first in a series of artists’ books created by the duo, features 8 posters that fold out and can easily be removed. While the concept is original enough, it is the story behind each of the posters that makes this book so unique. On one side of the poster is a photograph taken by Allen and on the opposite side is an interpreted color story (inspired-from the photo) and painted by Hable. The end product reflects two perspectives one the same subject.
1000 limited-run books were printed at a local studio in Athens and hand-bound with glue and cheesecloth (for easy tearing). Copies are available for purchase online for $35 and at a few select retailers (Sid Mashburn in Atlanta and John Derian in NYC, to name a few).
The book itself is 5 7/8” x8 ½” and each poster is 11”x17” (and should fit most standard-sized fames).
