Caption Contest: And the Winner Is…

By The EditorsNovember 4, 2011

The response to the Sporting South caption contest was overwhelming, so overwhelming that it has taken me way longer than expected to name a winner. But before I get to the grand champion there are a few honorable mentions that deserve attention.

One theme that bubbled up was my poor shooting (how did you guys know?). Jason Lind struck with this one: Did you put any lead in those shells?

And Mike Stacey added this: I know it's a Benelli, but it ain't done nothin’ for a DiBenedetto.

A reader named Charlie tossed a caption out that gets the most unexpected award: Who knew Jeff Daniels shot doves?

And quite a few of you had fun with the Boykin breed. From the sound of Elizabeth Crabtree’s caption she might own a few little brown dogs. This was her take: The only place a Boykin sits still.

And Karley Little added this: A Boykin—a thing of beauty that annoys forever!

Liz Mangham got in the spirit of the political season with her entry: Dave! That was no covey... that was Cheney!

But in the end, our highly subjective contest was won by a reader calling herself Honey.
This was her entry: OMG!! Did you see the size of that dove?????

Honey, nice job. Please e-mail your address to  editorial@gardenandgun.com  and we’ll get your bag of G&G goodies in the mail. For the rest of the participants, thanks for your many entries. If you didn’t win don’t despair. There’s another caption contest coming soon.
