Everything Old is New Again

There are legions of nouveau vintage boutiques popping up across the country and several are in the South. J and HP Clothing is joining the ranks of  Library Fashion, Rogue Wave Surf Shop, Oak Leaf and Acorn, and Palmer Trading Company. These shops all cater to men and women who want the superior quality found in older designs without the moth-eaten reminder that the clothing is, in fact, older.

What sets J and HP apart is its owners' commitment to sourcing the best vintage pieces for men and women and then making them even better through tasteful tweaking: add a colorful lining here, alter a lapel there, stitch on an elbow patch for kicks. Jonathan and Holly Powell, the husband and wife tastemakers behind the business, perfected their "Make and Modify" skills through the e-commerce site they launched in 2009. Recently they opened their first brick-and-mortar butique/atelier in trendy East Nashville to have more room to showcase their creations and interact more with shoppers.

In addition to the collection of vintage shoes, clothing, and accessories, J and HP also stocks a selection of original designs made in-house using American-made fibers and materials. Now, what's more cutting-edge than that?
