The Ultimate Oyster Roast TableApril 13, 2011
When I walked into the Bob Timberlake showroom at Century Furniture during furniture market in High Point, I felt a little like I was back at the Garden & Gun offices (or in the middle of a Garden & Gun story come to life).
There were beautiful antique boats hung from rough-hewn ceiling beams, wooden duck decoys, tabby walls, and all manner of wonderful, Southern things to pour over. Mr. Timberlake guided me through the collection, telling the story behind each piece he designed. The man can spin a yarn as well as Archibald Rutledge, and I could have listened to him talk about hunting the Carolina woods and all his other Southern adventures for hours.
And out of all his beautiful furniture, I found myself most drawn to his oyster shucking table (pictured below).
I'm not sure why it took so long for someone to think about putting an oyster shucking table in a furniture collection, but the idea is brilliant. The piece looks old and the metal bins on either end are perfect for chucking oyster shells or filling with ice and cold beer.
I vote for putting one on the porch at Garden & Gun when the style hits stores this fall!
