Cracker Crazy

When it comes to a tasty and no-fuss Southern treat, it’s hard to beat the venerable Charleston benne wafer. But recently, a tiny company out of Ocean City, Maryland, has been gaining a rabid following among discriminating noshers with a handmade cracker that’s just simple enough to be brilliant.

They’re called Little Ragghi’s Crackers, “Little Ragghi” being Raggatha Calentine, a Native American storyteller, cook, and all-around force of nature. The recipe is straightforward—flatbread, a little seasoning, and a heavy smear of olive oil and Parmesan. But the result is a wallop of a cracker that makes a fantastic accompaniment to wine, tapenades, spreads, you name it. They’re awfully good straight up, too, and a portion of the proceeds benefits the Native American Family Camp, an annual gathering for Native Americans from across the country. You can order the crackers in a standard 5 oz. bag, or a jumbo 2 lb. version. Our recommendation? Go for the jumbo.
