Slice of Heaven

The foodies in Charleston, South Carolina, make it their duty to sniff out the latest concoctions coming out of the Holy City, and lately all the buzz is about the Charleston Crepe Company’s crepe cakes. As addictive as they sound, the cakes are made from twenty-five layers of delicate crepes, all held together with rich chocolate or vanilla crème. We tried one at the G&G offices, and we’re here to tell you it was sublime. And gone in about five minutes.

The company’s founders, Jack and Rachel Byrne, developed the recipe after testing various versions on family and friends. “We kept trying different things until we got it just right,” Rachel says.

Now Charlestonians line up at local farmers’ markets to get their hands on the dessert, not to mention the company’s homemade toffee and hot chocolate (a second retail endeavor from the duo called Holy City Chocolate). But the best news is this: As of last month, the crepe cakes are now being shipped nationwide—which means you’ll never have to think twice about an original (and edible) holiday gift ever again.
