Granted, we might be a little biased, but the best food festival in the South, and possibly the country, takes place in Charleston, South Carolina (G&G’s home base). For four mouthwatering days, chefs, vintners, and foodies from across the country will gather at the Charleston Food + Wine Festival (March 5–8) for a celebration of all things epicurean. The guest list reads like a who’s who of top chefs, from James Beard Award winner Scott Peacock to tong-toting grill guru Bobby Flay. Our own Big Bad Chef, John Currence, will also make the trip from Oxford, Mississippi, to help craft a five-course sampler at local eatery Lana.
The festival’s hub is the Culinary Village, with tasting tents housing more than seventy specialty food and wine companies. There’s even an Iron Chef–like cooking competition pitting local chefs against national chefs in a face-off that would have Morimoto running for his Ginsu. Bring an open mind and, most of all, a hearty appetite.
