Well Read

Who says print is dead? Head to North Carolina this September, and you’ll find the medium alive and well, thank you very much. Every two years, the state hosts one of the country’s finest gatherings of authors, scholars, and all-around book junkies during the North Carolina Literary Festival, taking place September 10-13 this year at UNC in Chapel Hill.

Designed to spotlight Southern literature, the free festival features readings, talks, and even a few musical performances from more than a hundred authors, including marquee names (John Grisham, Elizabeth Edwards) and a bevy of talented G&G regulars—Rick Bragg, Daniel Wallace, Wells Tower, Marshall Chapman, and Clyde Edgerton. (If you can’t make it to Chapel Hill, check out the festival’s Authors on the Road schedule for a list of additional readings in six North Carolina cities.) As if you needed more evidence that the South is a hotbed of great writing.
