Dolly Parton will be honored for her music and philanthropy.

It’s a big weekend for Dolly Parton. This evening, she will be honored as the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year, an annual award from the Recording Academy presented to an artist with outstanding achievements in both music and philanthropy.

Academy President Neil Portnow praised the Tennessee-born country icon, the first member of the Nashville music community to receive the honor, as “a courageous trailblazer and indomitable inspiration for creators and artists …[she] knows the power of philanthropy and has used her stardom to contribute to a wide range of causes.” Willie Nelson, Mavis Staples, and Leon Bridges are among those scheduled for tonight’s gala and concert.

Then during the Grammy Awards on Sunday, Little Big Town, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves, and Katy Perry will all take part in a tribute to Parton during the televised show on CBS. And Parton herself will perform music from her 2018 album, Dumplin’, the soundtrack to the Netflix film of the same name. It marks Parton’s first performance at the Grammys since 2001.

Parton has won nine Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. Parton’s philanthropy includes her Imagination Library, which provides books to children in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The program has delivered more than 100 million books since its launch in 1995.
