Surfing Dogs Put Their Best Paws Forward

Pups in Florida take to their boards for annual fundraiser

“If your dog yodels, recites poetry, or surfs, this is the event for you,” says Karen Counts, programs director for Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic & Ranch in Jupiter, Florida. Several spunky pups competed in the fifth annual Hang 20 Surf Dog competition last month, taking to the waves on the beach at Carlin Park. “We’re proud to offer this fun, animal-friendly event to the community that brings much-needed awareness to our mission,” Counts says. The event is an annual fundraiser for Furry Friends, a nonprofit, no-kill shelter that has been rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding homes for animals for more than thirty years and currently cares for almost two hundred animals. Here’s a look at some of the pooches who participated this year and in years past.
