Miles and Miles of Texas

From the cockpit of a single-engine Cessna, “Delta Dawn” playing over his headset, the Austin, Texas, photographer and entrepreneur Jay B. Sauceda circumnavigated the 3,822 miles of the Lone Star State’s border in 2015, capturing 44,000 aerial images of the changing landscape over six days, from the beaches of Galveston Island to the farmland of the Panhandle to the canyons of Big Bend National Park along the Rio Grande. Beginning January 26, Austin’s Bulloch Texas State History Museum will showcase a wide selection of those photographs in Texas From Above, an exhibition that expands on Sauceda’s fall 2018 book on the project, A Mile Above Texas.
