An intimate brunch conversation inspired by the April/May Garden Issue.
Join us at the Garden & Gun Club at The Battery Atlanta for the debut of the Garden & Gun Magazine Club, a new series designed to bring the magazine’s stories off the page and into lively, in-person conversations.
Launching alongside the upcoming April/May Garden Issue, this intimate gathering invites guests to enjoy cocktails and passed appetizers while engaging in a moderated Q&A with Alex Smith, Atlanta-based landscape designer and Shutze Award winner from the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, and Elizabeth Florio, G&G’s digital editor.
The discussion will explore Smith’s gardening lens as it relates to the magazine’s feature of him highlighting the inspiration behind Thistlewaite in Highlands, North Carolina, and the season’s themes of gardening, lifestyle, and Southern hospitality. Designed for connection, the Magazine Club offers a relaxed, club-style setting where attendees can mingle and exchange ideas with fellow avid readers of G&G—all while celebrating the stories that bring us together.
Alex Smith

From the mountain and lake regions of the Carolinas to the low country of Coastal Georgia and Florida and the rugged Ozark Mountains, Alex has worked on diverse projects across the United States. These projects range from formal estate gardens, public parks, historic garden restoration, new construction landscapes, to home garden renovation. In each locale, Alex applies the same design rigor to plant and materials selection and sensitivity to place. Alex led the landscape design and implementation efforts at a major resort property and golf course in the heart of the Missouri Ozarks. He was also commissioned to design the Olga Goizueta Memorial Garden at the Atlanta History Center and an exhibition garden in the Levy Parterre at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
