Miami to Bimini, Bahamas

The Bahamas are one of the closest tropical getaways to the American South. And while you can hop on a flight to Nassau from multiple Southern cities, including Houston, Atlanta, and Charlotte, there is only one route from the U.S. straight to Bimini, and it just launched on Valentine’s Day. A mere fifty-mile jaunt, the Miami to Bimini flight on American Airlines takes you to the westernmost part of the Bahamas in under an hour, and you’ll be just a golf cart ride away from beach clubs and island cocktail bars.

Orlando to St. Thomas

St. Thomas delivers both postcard-perfect beaches and a home base for easy island hopping around the U.S. Virgin Islands. And a new direct flight via Southwest from Orlando just launched in February, making this destination especially convenient for travelers looking for a passport-free tropical reset. Just make sure you have your REAL ID.

Fort Lauderdale to Montego Bay, Jamaica

Montego Bay remains a perennial favorite for quick Caribbean getaways thanks to its resort-lined beaches and frequent service from South Florida. Flights from Fort Lauderdale aboard Spirit and JetBlue get you there in just under two hours —and there’s plenty of good news on the ground for those planning a visit in the near future. Following damage from Hurricane Melissa, several beloved resorts are back in action or will be soon: Bahia Principe Luxury Runaway Bay returns April 1 after repairs and renovations, and Eclipse at Half Moon reopens just one day later on April 2. Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean, and Sandals South Coast are all set to reopen in May following renovations, and Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica is undergoing a full renovation with a December 2026 reopening on the horizon.

Miami, Atlanta, or Charlotte to Barbados

Hop on a flight to Barbados, which pairs turquoise Caribbean waters with a vibrant food scene and stylish resorts. Spring is an ideal time to visit before peak summer crowds arrive. A few airlines offer daily direct flights, including Delta out of Atlanta and American out of Miami and Charlotte. Stay at a new hotel like Crystal Cove Barbados, an eighty-eight-room resort with two restaurants, a cafe, and watersports. Or book a few nights at the all-inclusive Wyndham Grand Barbados Sam Lords Castle. Just minutes from the airport and the largest resort on the island, it’s set on dramatic seaside cliffs in the Saint Philip parish.

Austin to Cancún

This new nonstop route from Austin lands you along Mexico’s Caribbean coast, where spring travelers will find everything from all-inclusive resorts to world-class snorkeling and diving. A daily seasonal service launched on Delta in December and runs through mid-April.

Multiple cities to San Juan, Puerto Rico

With no passport required for U.S. citizens and residents, San Juan is the perfect place to experience Old World architecture, Latin culture, and yes, that same salsa music and reggaeton from Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance. San Juan also boasts easy access to beaches, waterfalls, and the rainforest. Flights from hubs like Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Atlanta are available, and routes from both Jacksonville, Florida, and Richmond, Virginia, will launch this month via JetBlue, too. Stay at Alma Hotel San Juan for a boutique experience and wellness activities like rooftop yoga in the heart of Old San Juan, or opt for the Asian-inspired beachside charm of Bali Posh Hotel, just minutes from the airport.

Orlando to Sint Maarten

New nonstop service from Orlando to Sint Maarten on Southwest Airlines begins April 7, 2026, opening up one of the Caribbean’s most dynamic dual-culture islands. Expect beach-hopping hikes, scuba diving, kayaking, and horseback riding, and be sure to arrive with an appetite for Dutch and French foods as well as Creole specialties like johnnycakes and saltfish fritters.

Tampa to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

In December 2025, JetBlue launched a route from Tampa to Punta Cana, land of some thirty-plus miles of white-sand beaches. For those in search of great golf courses, a nightlife scene, and dolphin watching, look no further than this resort region, also known as the Coconut Coast.

Atlanta or Charlotte to Bermuda

Direct options to Bermuda—on Delta from Atlanta and American from Charlotte—make getting to this historic isle a snap. Best known for its pastel homes, colonial architecture, and pink-sand beaches, the island is also home to a UNESCO World Heritage site, St. George’s, where you can learn why Bermuda is considered the Shipwreck Capital of the Atlantic. Or you can just opt to watch the sunset with a Dark ‘n Stormy in hand. The ginger beer and dark rum cocktail originated in Bermuda, after all.
