A French Quarter Moment

photo: Rush Jagoe
Jazz musicians live in the moment—improvising, going where the music takes them. Great photographers are no different. Garden & Gun contributor Rush Jagoe had just wrapped up a shoot with the Rebirth Brass Band in New Orleans’ French Quarter when he turned the corner and happened upon this sight: a bright, shiny sousaphone taking a breather in the trunk of an equally lustrous 1950s Cadillac Series 62. “There are always these beautiful little moments that happen in the Quarter,” says Jagoe, a Kentucky native who now lives in the city. “This felt timeless—and very New Orleans.”
