Aurea, a golden eagle, has been the official War Eagle since 2019. Before her, Nova flew from 2006–2019 and Tiger from 1986–2006. Aubie is the name of Auburn’s tiger mascot.

The 12th Man originated January 2, 1922, when former Texas A&M football player E. King Gill returned to the sideline when the team was plagued by injuries. Gill stood ready to play for the entirety of the game.

Sewanee, Georgia Tech, and Tulane were all charter members of the SEC when it was founded in 1932. Sewanee left in 1940, Georgia Tech in 1964, and Tulane in 1966.

The tradition started in 2000 when Virginia Tech installed a new video board in Lane Stadium.
