Inspired by the New York Sour—that timeless whiskey sour topped with a ruby-red wine float—this cocktail from Kentucky’s Stitzel-Weller Distillery makes refined magic with the help of Blade and Bow Solera 12 Year and Bordeaux. The earthy, velvety finish is reason enough to make it, but the real wow moment comes when that deep red float settles atop the drink.
5 Key Float
Yield: 1 cocktail
Ingredients
2 oz. Blade and Bow Solera Reserve 12 Year
1 oz. simple syrup
¾ oz. fresh lemon juice
1 oz. Bordeaux
1 lemon peel
Preparation
- Put Blade and Bow Solera Reserve 12 year, simple syrup, and lemon juice into a shaker. Shake for 15-20 seconds. Double strain and pour over fresh ice cubes. Then float the Bordeaux over the cocktail, creating a strong line of demarcation. Express lemon peel oils on and around the glass. Gently place peel in the cocktail keeping the separation intact.
