“In all eleven of South Africa’s official languages, braai means coming together around the fire,” says Macon, Georgia, native Stebin Horne, who partnered with Atlanta chef Kevin Gillespie to begin making Kudu Safari Braais in 2017. Two years before, during a trip to his wife’s family farm near Durban, South Africa, Horne experienced his first braai. It inspired him to design a versatile grill that’ll attract—and feed—a crowd. Vertical arms attach to a steel firebox with adjustable components that raise, lower, and swing for more precise cooking and temperature control. Sear steaks over direct heat on the grill surface, then swing it to the cooler side while you sauté vegetables in the skillet. Pop on a lid to turn it into a smoker or oven. $499; kudugrills.com
