Summer Dresses with a Southern Story

Blogger Julia Engel of Charleston, South Carolina, debuts a new fashion collection

Southerners know every possible way to beat the heat, from the cooling respite of a sleeping porch to an ice-frosted pitcher of sweet tea. And for Southern women, a breezy summer dress is a stylish way to keep cool, too. Enter the new collection by Julia Engel, the Charleston, South Carolina, blogger behind Gal Meets Glam, who designed forty-three frocks inspired by the Holy City—both by the picturesque gardens and its summer heat.

“The weather here makes it ideal for wearing dresses,” Engel says, “and there’s always something colorful in bloom.” From delicate floral motifs to simple chambray in flattering silhouettes, Engel set out to create pieces that are very easy to wear. “I think Southern women will love the mix of femininity and timelessness,” she says. “There is an effortlessness that comes with wearing a dress.” The full line, which launches today, will be available on Gal Meets Glam or Nordstrom. Engel’s creative streak doesn’t stop with this particular collection, either. She plans to launch twenty-five new pieces every month on both sites.
