Job Opening: Art Production Assistant

Garden & Gun seeks a candidate who is interested in learning all elements of editorial design and production for an award-winning lifestyle magazine. This person will be a key player, involved in all functions of the day-to-day activities of editorial production with the G&G Photo and Art Departments. The position is based in our office in Charleston, South Carolina.
Art and production responsibilities:
–Prep, troubleshoot and traffic print layouts through all stages of production, from copy flow through final proof and shipping of files to prepress
–Oversee all communication with offsite prepress team
–Create/update templates, style sheets, and libraries
–Check layout specs, including bleed, trim, resolution, color space, and file management
–Coordinate photo release. Guide the color correction process with the photo department
–Ship final edit files to prepress, after a thorough design and preflighting quality check
–Collect assets for SIP issues, books, and additional brand related projects
–Manage the creation and distribution of G&G digital editions
Photo responsibilities:
–Process and handle all photo department paperwork: invoices, contracts, and budget management
–Photo shoot production – booking travel, studios, coordinating messengers, obtaining permits, distributing call sheets, etc.
–Maintain the master list of photo credits and captions for each issue
–Manage imagery for social media needs
–Post production duties such as archiving photo, creating web content, PDF files, etc.
Requirements:
–Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in art, design, photography, or related field
–1-2 years editorial art and production experience in a fast-paced consumer magazine work environment
–Expertise in InDesign
–Proficient in additional Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) as well as Word/Excel/Outlook/file transfer systems
–Strong layout production skills and knowledge of page makeup and preflighting –Experience in image color markup a plus
–Must have excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
–Ability to prioritize and multi-task under pressure, to juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
–Must have a sense of humor
