A seasonal sip to warm you from the inside out
Bourbon cocktails on a counter

Think of this cocktail as the liquid version of your favorite sweater. Dreamed up by Sea Island Resort mixologist Nic Wallace, it’s got the sweet kiss of apple cider, the spice of clove-scented Sorel liqueur, and the chocolatey depth of white crème de cacao. It all comes together when stirred with Blade & Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and a generous spoonful of spiced honey butter. Just ask the guests who sampled it at the G&G Club at Stitzel-Weller Distillery during the 2022 Bourbon Block Party: This drink warms you up like a roaring winter fire.

Hot Buttered Bourbon

Yield: 1 Cocktail

Ingredients

    • 1½ oz. Blade & Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

    • ½ oz. Sorel liqueur

    • ¼ oz. white crème de cacao

    • ½ oz. lemon juice

    • 3 oz. apple cider

    • 1 bar spoon of spiced honey butter (recipe below)

    • 1 rosemary spring

    • Grated nutmeg, to taste

For the spiced honey butter

    • 1 lb. unsalted butter, softened just until stirrable

    • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

    • 1½ tsp. kosher salt

    • 1 cup raw honey

    • ½ oz. vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. Make the spiced honey butter by combining all ingredients in a small bowl and stirring well.

  2. Combine bourbon, Sorel liqueur, white crème de cacao, lemon juice, and apple cider (hot) into a toddy mug (or alternate hot beverage cup). Gently stir to incorporate the ingredients. Using a melon baller (or bar spoon if not available), scoop a small sphere of spiced honey butter onto the hot cocktail and allow it to melt into the beverage. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and grated nutmeg.
