Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to toast a new New Orleans bar. In late 2018, lauded bartenders Chris Hannah and Nick Detrich plan to open Jewel of the South in the French Quarter, where they will mix up such Big Easy classics as Brandy Crustas and lesser-known gems, including this Obituary cocktail. “It’s a deadly spin on the martini,” Hannah says.

Ingredients

2 oz. gin
3/4 oz. dry vermouth
1 barspoon absinthe
1 barspoon Herbsaint (or Pernod)
Preparation
Stir ingredients in a mixing glass with ice until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
