Percival Everett, the Pulitzer-nominated novelist and poet, took part in a conversation with G&G contributing editor Jonathan Miles for the magazine’s book club.

The discussion was centered on Everett’s latest novel, James, a telling of Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the perspective of the enslaved character Jim. Everett discussed his first encounter with Twain’s book and his approach to the novel, as well as his influences, his writing and research process, the relationship between writing and fishing, and more.
