Generations of New Orleanians have enjoyed milk punch on holiday mornings and especially during Mardi Gras season. Here is the recipe served at Brennan’s restaurant, made with the imbiber’s choice of spirit.

Brennan’s Milk Punch
The morning sipper of choice in New Orleans, with your pick of bourbon or brandy

Ingredients
Yield: 1 cocktail
2 oz. milk
2 oz. cream
1½ oz. bourbon whiskey or brandy
1½ oz. vanilla bean-infused simple syrup
Freshly ground nutmeg, for garnish
Preparation
Combine first four ingredients over ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a coupe or wine glass with no ice. Garnish with nutmeg.
